IIn the late 1980s, Czechoslovakia’s spying on Trump intensified as the country’s intelligence service, Státní bezpečnost (StB), ramped up surveillance. Newly uncovered documents reveal that the StB, closely linked to the Soviet KGB, monitored Trump through his first wife, Ivana Zelníčková, and her father, Miloš Zelníček. The goal? To gather intelligence on the highest levels of the U.S. government.

Trump’s visit to Moscow in 1987, arranged by the Soviet ambassador, raised further interest. Shortly after, Trump publicly hinted at presidential ambitions—a detail noted by Cold War spies. These files don’t confirm if the KGB directly influenced the operation, but they expose how deeply Trump was on the radar of Communist intelligence.
